Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized the nation's top high school football players. Past members of the MaxPreps Freshman All-America Team include Leonard Fournette (2010), Christian Kirk (2011), Nick Bosa (2012), De'Andre Swift (2013), Micah Parsons (2014), Sam Howell (2015), Jase McClellan (2016), Ja'Corey Brooks (2017), Raleek Brown (2018) and Arch Manning (2019).
National Freshman of the Year selection Bryce Underwood of Belleville (Mich.) headlines the 2021 MaxPreps High School Football Freshman All-America Team. Underwood led the Tigers to a 13-1 record and Division 1 state title throwing for 2,888 yards and 39 touchdowns against four interceptions. He added six more scores on the ground and helped Belleville win its first state championship in school history.
In total, 20 different states along with Washington, D.C. were represented with California and Florida leading the way with seven selections each followed by Georgia (6), Pennsylvania (4), Alabama (3) and Texas (3).
Selections are based on team success, individual production and local, regional state honors from the recently-completed season. Potential at the college and professional level is not a primary consideration.
