The Woodstock Wolverines will head out on the road to square off against the River Ridge Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Tuesday, Woodstock was fully in charge, breezing past the Buccaneers 68-23 at home.
Woodstock got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was lily conkell out in front who scored 16 points along with two steals. Conkell is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Emily Jacobs, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, River Ridge had already won ten in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.1 points), and they went ahead and made it 11 on Tuesday. They took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 70-35 victory over Etowah. River Ridge has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 14 contests by 21 points or more this season.
The match pitted two dominant forwards against one another in Kayla Cleaveland and Megan Reed. Cleaveland had a solid game and dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. Meanwhile, Reed did her best for the losing side, scoring eight points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Woodstock's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 9-15. As for River Ridge, they pushed their record up to 19-4 with that win, which was their 18th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Woodstock hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 57.5 points per game. However, it's not like River Ridge struggles in that department as they've been averaging 66.2 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Woodstock took a serious blow against the Knights when the teams last played back in January, falling 78-48. Can Woodstock avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
