Basketball Game Preview: Pacific Grove Breakers vs. Alisal Trojans

The Pacific Grove Breakers will venture away from home to take on the Alisal Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Pacific Grove's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five matchups.

Last Monday, Pacific Grove came up short against Monterey and fell 66-57. While losing is never fun, the Breakers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 514th, while the Dores are ranked 248th).

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Andrew Nimri, who went 9 for 17 on his way to 24 points and six rebounds. The contest was his fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabriel Valencia, who went 5 of 11 en route to 14 points and five boards.

Meanwhile, Alisal hadn't done well against Palma recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Alisal came out on top against Palma by a score of 74-61. The win was familiar territory for the Trojans who have now won three games in a row.

Pacific Grove better keep an eye on Misael Palafox. He was instrumental in Alisal's win, putting up 16 points and eight assists.

Alisal is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.0 points per game. As for Pacific Grove, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-9 record this season.

Pacific Grove came up short against Alisal when the teams last played on January 9th, falling 80-69. Can Pacific Grove avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
