Baseball Recap: Foothills Christian Has No Trouble Against Calvin Christian

Foothills Christian won against Calvin Christian on Thursday with 19 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Knights were the clear victors by a 19-3 margin over the Crusaders. The victory continues a trend for the Knights in their matchups with the Crusaders: they've now won seven in a row.

Jack Morgan and Jr Merino made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Morgan struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Merino tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Foothills Christian is 4-2 when he allows at most one walk, but 7-9 otherwise. At the plate, Morgan got on base in five of his six plate appearances with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles, while Merino went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those two doubles gave Morgan a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Josh Howard, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Bruce Bailey, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Foothills Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Calvin Christian only posted an OBP of .290.

The win got Foothills Christian back to even at 11-11. As for Calvin Christian, they now have a losing record of 4-5.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Foothills Christian is set to square off against their familiar foe Coastal Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Calvin Christian will face off against rival Escondido Charter at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Crusaders have a tough task ahead: they'll enter the matchup with three straight defeats, while the Tigers will come in with eight straight victories.
