Marion is 7-2 against Richmond since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Marion Giants will be playing at home against the Richmond Red Devils at 7:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Saturday, Marion came up short against Hamilton Southeastern and fell 71-64.
Marion's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jaymen Townsend, who scored 24 points along with 9 rebounds, and Tim Jones who scored 16 points along with 3 steals. Townsend scored a full 37.5% of Marion's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Tusi Jackson, who scored 5 points.
Meanwhile, Richmond didn't have too much trouble with Floyd Central at home on Saturday as they won 75-61. The win made it back-to-back wins for Richmond.
Richmond can attribute much of their success to Cedric Horton, who scored 22 points. That makes it two consecutive games in which Horton has scored at least 25% of Richmond's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Carpenter, who scored 14 points.
Marion's victory lifted them to 2-1 while Hamilton Southeastern's defeat dropped them down to 2-2.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Marion and Richmond are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Marion hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 65.7 points per game. However, it's not like Richmond struggles in that department as they've been even better at 68 per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run up the score up higher Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more basketball content.
