Blazer is 9-1 against Lewis County since May of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Tomcats will head out on the road to take on the Lions at 6:00 p.m. Blazer is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games.
While Blazer didn't have the best season last year (they finished 16-20), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victors by a 13-4 margin over Forbush on Friday. Considering the Tomcats have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Brady Marushi was a standout: he fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted over his last ten games. Zane Ingram also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.
Blazer always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Forbush only posted an OBP of .355.
Meanwhile, Lewis County suffered their closest loss since April 24, 2025 on Saturday. They fell just short of Estill County by a score of 11-9.
Lewis County saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Braylon Puente, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with five stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Bryson Helpenstine was another, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Blazer's win bumped their record up to 10-2. As for Lewis County, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-8.
Monday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Blazer has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .470. However, it's not like Lewis County struggles in that department as they've averaged .437. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Blazer got the 'W' in their previous matchup two weeks ago against Lewis County by a conclusive 13-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tomcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
