Leilehua and Pearl City are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Mighty Mules will be playing in front of their home fans against the Chargers at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Leilehua 3.6, Pearl City 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
On Wednesday, Leilehua made easy work of Waipahu and carried off a 7-1 victory. Considering the Mighty Mules have won three contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Zayden Winter tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over six innings pitched.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Hurley Awana, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Yonemori, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Pearl City faced Campbell in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Chargers skirted past the Sabers 5-4. The win was nothing new for the Chargers as they're now sitting on three straight.
Chase Lau looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Tyler Oshiro was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ethan Higashiona, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
Pearl City hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five strikeouts batters in ten consecutive matchups.
Pearl City pushed their record up to 6-4-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Leilehua, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Leilehua might still be hurting after the 8-0 loss they got from Pearl City when the teams last played back in March. Will the Mighty Mules have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
