Section 8 Conference IV recap Oct. 30, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Mineola, who took down 572nd ranked Mineola, 29-28. Ryan Carroll threw for 108 yards and two touchdowns and ran for eight yards in the win.
Island Trees moved up to 549 from 597 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Section 8 Conference IV. The Bulldogs climbed the ranks as a result of defeating the Mustangs 29-28.
Island Trees' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Brandon Cassar chipped in 96 yards. Brian Eletti helped Island Trees' passing attack out by catching three balls for 28 yards.
Jimmy Carabott was the best wideout in the league this week as Michael Bonsignore's team topped Mineola. Carabott racked up three receptions for 44 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Carroll and Cassar the Bulldogs have been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Carroll leads the league in passing with 851 yards, while Cassar has rushed for 631 yards this season. Clarke's John Fogherty leads the league in receiving yards with 387 on 19 catches.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Seaford takes on Dan Guido's team. As it stands, the Vikings are in first, while the Mustangs are in fifth.
Seaford extended the longest winning streak in Section 8 Conference IV this week by beating Malverne, 43-7. The win marks eighth in a row for the Rob Perpall's team.
