The Mathis Pirates scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They walked away with a 70-61 victory over George West. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Ashton Quesada was his usual excellent self, scoring 24 points along with six rebounds and two steals. He hasn't dropped below 15points for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Brandon Reed, who scored nine points along with nine rebounds.
George West lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Tristen Blevins, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 rebounds. Blevins continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Christopher Bernal was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Mathis now has a winning record of 12-11. As for George West, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 13-10.
Mathis will be playing at home against Aransas Pass at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for George West, they will head out on the road to face off against Odem at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
