Conrad Science and William Penn are an even 3-3 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Red Wolves will welcome the Colonials at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Conrad Science is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Delaware's top teams: Caravel Academy, who was ranked first at the time (Conrad Science was ranked fifth). The Red Wolves came out on top against the Buccaneers by a score of 12-8 on Thursday. Considering the Red Wolves' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask William Penn). They blew past Middletown 23-12 on Thursday. The Colonials might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by six runs or more this season.
Michael Baker made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). Baker was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Colby Gilbert was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and five RBI. He also scored three runs, which is notable because William Penn is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-2 otherwise. Anthony Cheyney was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs and four RBI.
William Penn always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .591. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
William Penn is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.8 runs over those games. As for Conrad Science, their win bumped their record up to 8-2.
Everything went Conrad Science's way against William Penn when the teams last played back in May of 2025, as Conrad Science made off with a 10-0 victory. Do the Red Wolves have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Colonials turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
