The Lowry Buckaroos will head out to take on the Fernley Vaqueros at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Lowry comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Lowry and Elko meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Buckaroos lost 16-1 to the Indians.
Lowry saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Michael Heikkila, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Fernley hadn't done well against Churchill County recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Vaqueros had just enough and edged out the Greenwave 10-9. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Vaqueros considering their one-run performance the contest before.
Spencer Pryor and Riley McCullar made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Pryor tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, McCullar tossed five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off only two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Pryor went 1-for-5 with three runs, one double, and one RBI, while McCullar went 2-for-6 with two runs and one RBI. Those three runs gave Pryor a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nikko Pryor, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Brody Jones, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
Fernley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Churchill County only managed nine.
Fernley is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Lowry, their loss dropped their record down to 0-13-1.
Lowry came up short against Fernley when the teams last played back in May of 2025, falling 8-4. Can the Buckaroos avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
