East Lyme is 1-7 against Fitch since October of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The East Lyme Vikings will head out on the road to face off against the Fitch Falcons at 6:00 p.m.
Last Friday, East Lyme had to suffer through a rough 54-14 loss at the hands of Guilford. East Lyme has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, East Lyme had strong showings from Aidan Patterson, who rushed for 119 yards and a touchdown, and Mathew Leone, who picked up 24 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Fitch waltzed into Friday's matchup with four straight wins but they left with five. They really took it to Woodstock Academy for the full four quarters, racking up a 54-14 victory at home. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Fitch had established a 27 point advantage.
It was another big night for Adonis Fine, who rushed for 123 yards and a touchdown, and also picked up 45 receiving yards. Fine's longest rush was for an incredible 80 yards. Fitch also got a significant boost from Devin Cook, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 103 yards.
Guilford's win bumped their season record to 7-1 while East Lyme's loss dropped theirs to 4-4.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. East Lyme has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 162.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Fitch struggles in that department as they've been even better at 279.6 per game. It's looking like Friday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
