Cicero-North Syracuse is a perfect 10-0 against Fayetteville-Manlius since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Northstars are taking a road trip to face off against the Hornets at 5:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Cicero-North Syracuse sitting on three straight victories and Fayetteville-Manlius on four.
On Thursday, Cicero-North Syracuse got the win against West Genesee by a conclusive 14-4. The Northstars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by seven runs or more this season.
Mila Owens made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Owens was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Marisa Leone was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Sydney Rockwell, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Cicero-North Syracuse was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Fayetteville-Manlius was not the first on the board on Saturday, but they got there more often. They walked away with a 6-2 win over Fairport. While the Hornets didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Fayetteville-Manlius' victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Cicero-North Syracuse, their record is now 4-1.
Both Cicero-North Syracuse and Fayetteville-Manlius just can't seem to miss. The Northstars have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Fayetteville-Manlius struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.8 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
