Baseball Game Preview: Montgomery Bears vs. Huntsville Hornets

For the second straight game, Montgomery will face off against Huntsville. The Bears will square off against the Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Montgomery will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs two weeks ago, then bounced right back against Huntsville on Tuesday. The Bears blew past the Hornets 10-3. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won nine matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Cason Irwin tossed a big game, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Grant Richardson, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Wyatt Clewett was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Montgomery has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 16-9-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. As for Huntsville, they now have a losing record of 13-14-1.
