Baseball Recap: Challis Gets the Win

Challis had won three straight at home, but on Thursday they bumped their record up to 14-8-1 to make it four. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-9 victory over the Salmon Savages. The win continues a trend for the Vikings in their matchups with the Savages: they've now won five in a row.

Brayden Ollar made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one walk in 11 consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, Tanner Ellsworth was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Marlen Mitchell was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three RBI.

As for Salmon, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-10-1 record this season. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

On Salmon's side, Gauge Stephenson and Reuel McCallum did some serious damage despite the final result: Stephenson got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI, while McCallum went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. McCallum is becoming a predictor of the Savages' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-2 (and 1-8-1 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Pakuer, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

As of now, neither Challis nor Salmon have any future games scheduled.
