It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Lexington had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They blew past the Heyworth Hornets 11-5. The Minutemen might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.
Braeden Barber was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since May 2nd.
In other batting news, Kayden Knight was excellent, going 3-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Blaine Friedmansky, who went 2-for-5 with three runs.
The victory (which was Lexington's fourth in a row) raised their record to 18-11. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Heyworth, they moved to 24-15 with that loss, which also ended their ten-game winning streak.
As of now, neither Lexington nor the Hornets have any future games scheduled.
