The Vista PEAK Prep Bison will face off against the Denver North Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Vista PEAK Prep is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Things were looking good for Vista PEAK Prep after they put the first run on the board on Saturday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Mullen by a score of 10-9.
Bella Renzi was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-low in earned runs (zero). She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Vista PEAK Prep got a big performance out of Kaydence Maes, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that Maes has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Jaya Gray, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles and one run.
Meanwhile, Denver North waltzed into their game on Thursday with eight straight wins... but they left with nine. Everything went their way against the Raiders as they made off with a 17-5 win. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won ten matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Like Vista PEAK Prep, Denver North also got a great game from a two-way player: Xavia Escobedo. She tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits. Escobedo was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Denver North got a massive performance out of Jordyn Villarreal, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and one stolen base. That's the most triples Villarreal has posted since back in September of 2024. Veronica Loera-Tafoya was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
Denver North kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 19 consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Denver North's victory bumped their record up to 13-2. As for Vista PEAK Prep, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season.
Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Vista PEAK Prep hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .339. However, it's not like Denver North struggles in that department as they've averaged .478. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
