Baseball Game Preview: Manchester Academy Mavericks vs. Washington Generals

For the second straight game, Manchester Academy will face off against Washington. The Mavericks will challenge the Generals at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Manchester Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.5 runs per game this season.

Manchester Academy is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Washington just ended the team's seven-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Generals by a score of 7-6.

Brody Roberts was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He struck out eight batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two RBI.

Roberts wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jon Parker Dees, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3. Dees has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times he's played. Another was Wrigley Richardson, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Washington has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.4 runs over those games. As for Manchester Academy, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 25-7.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Manchester Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Washington struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
