The Logansport Berries will square off against the Benton Central Bison at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
Logansport is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 15 runs on Wednesday, they were much more limited against Peru on Friday. They lost 11-1 to the Tigers. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Berries have suffered against the Tigers since April 24, 2015.
Logansport saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carson Dubes, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double. Deagan Kitchel also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Benton Central). They blew past North Newton 9-3 on Thursday. The Bison not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since May 18, 2024 (when they won 15-7).
Nolan Winkler made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Winkler was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaydric Tyson, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and two doubles. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tanner Pitstick, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Benton Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Benton Central's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-7. As for Logansport, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-5 record this season.
Logansport came out on top in a nail-biter against Benton Central when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 6-4. Do the Berries have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bison turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
