Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up eight more assists than your opponent, a fact the Pueblo Central Wildcats proved on Wednesday. They came out on top against Pueblo West by a score of 60-49. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Pueblo Central.
Pueblo Central's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Xavier Davis, who scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Davis has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ladamien Davis, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and five steals.
Pueblo West's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Logan Montgomery, who scored 13 points along with three steals. Andrew Trujillo was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with 12 rebounds.
Pueblo Central is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-5 record this season. As for Pueblo West, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pueblo Central will square off against Pueblo County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Pueblo County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Wednesday. As for Pueblo West, they will head out on the road to take on Pueblo East at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Pueblo East is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
