Air Academy hasn't had much luck against Cheyenne Mountain recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Kadets will welcome the Red-Tailed Hawks at 6:00 p.m. Air Academy will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
Air Academy saw some tournament action on Saturday. They came out on top against Pueblo East by a score of 2-0.
Air Academy relied on the efforts of Shelbe Lyons, who had 13 digs and one assist, and Audrey Husemann, who had eight assists and five digs. Sophia McNab also deserves some recognition as she had her first kill of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Cheyenne Mountain, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They walked away with a 3-1 win over Discovery Canyon on Thursday. The Red-Tailed Hawks haven't had any issues with the Thunder recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.
Cheyenne Mountain was especially dominant in the first set. The final score came out to 25-11, 17-25, 25-16, 25-21.
Cheyenne Mountain's win came from a few key players Air Academy will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jera Rodriguez, who had five digs and two aces. That's the most aces she has posted over her last four matches. The team also got some help courtesy of Brynn Ressler, who had ten digs and three assists.
Cheyenne Mountain was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 15 aces. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Discovery Canyon only served eight.
Cheyenne Mountain's win bumped their record up to 9-6. As for Air Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 10-5.
Air Academy might still be hurting after the 3-0 defeat they got from Cheyenne Mountain in their previous meeting back in September. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of the Red-Tailed Hawks' Kaisa Dowd, who had six kills, five digs, and three aces. Now that the Kadets know the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
