The Stevenson Bulldogs will challenge the Kalama Chinooks at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
If Stevenson beats Kalama with 14 runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Bulldogs blew past King's Way Christian 14-6 on Thursday. The win was nothing new for the Bulldogs as they're now sitting on five straight.
Jewel Waymire was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over 5.1 innings pitched. Waymire was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Stevenson got a massive performance out of Rebecca Townsend, who went 3-for-5 with three runs and three RBI. Cayden Hulsey-Bible was another key player, going 3-for-5 with three RBI and one triple.
Stevenson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive contests.
Kalama never got on the board in their matchup on Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Columbia on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Bruins with a sharp 24-18 victory. The Chinooks' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Colbie Manninen was a standout: she got on base in four of her six plate appearances with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ada Schlangen, who got on base in four of her six plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
Stevenson's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.3 runs over those games. As for Kalama, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-5.
Kalama's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Stevenson has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10 hits per game. It's a different story for Kalama, though, as they've been averaging 12 hits. Given Stevenson's sizable advantage in that area, the Chinooks will need to find a way to close that gap.
Stevenson suffered a grim 10-0 defeat to Kalama when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
