Baseball Game Preview: Joel Barlow Falcons vs. Brookfield Bobcats

The Joel Barlow Falcons will venture away from home to face off against the Brookfield Bobcats at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Joel Barlow will come into the game with an undefeated record on the line.

Joel Barlow had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Immaculate on Monday. The Falcons were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over the Mustangs. The result was nothing new for the Falcons, who have now won five matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

Kenny Esposito looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

On the hitting side, TJ Baer was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases and two runs. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Billy Bardani also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, Brookfield suffered their biggest defeat since March 30, 2024 on Monday. They lost 7-1 to Masuk. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Bobcats' biggest loss of the season was also their lowest-scoring.

Brookfield saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Matt Ackerly, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run.

Joel Barlow's victory bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Brookfield, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 5-1.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Joel Barlow has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Brookfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Everything went Joel Barlow's way against Brookfield when the teams last played back in May of 2024, as Joel Barlow made off with a 9-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
