The Jacksonville Crimsons can finally bid farewell to their nine-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They really took it to Granite City for the full four quarters, racking up a 48-16 win at home. The victory was just what Jacksonville needed coming off of a 62-37 loss in their prior contest.
Jacksonville got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Laila Cook out in front who scored 15 points along with 9 rebounds and 4 steals. That makes it two consecutive games in which Cook has scored at least 25% of Jacksonville's points. Zara Harper was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with 5 rebounds.
Jacksonville's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 1-9. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 25.7 points per game. As for Granite City, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-6.
Jacksonville will head out on the road to face off against Lincoln at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Lincoln knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight contests -- so hopefully Jacksonville likes a good challenge. As for Granite City, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Father McGivney Catholic at 1:00 p.m. Father McGivney Catholic will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
