Silverton is 8-2 against South Albany since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Foxes will host the Redhawks at 5:00 p.m. Silverton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
Silverton fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Crescent Valley on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Raiders by a score of 9-8. The Foxes have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Avery Wurdinger was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily Bennett, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, South Albany waltzed into their game on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Everything went their way against the Panthers as they made off with a 12-3 victory. The Redhawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by six runs or more this season.
Summer Strickland made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those two hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, South Albany got a massive performance out of Parker Doerr, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most runs Doerr has posted since back in April. Maddie Angel was another key player, going 3-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
South Albany always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Central only posted an OBP of .300.
Silverton's defeat dropped their record down to 13-9. As for South Albany, their win bumped their record up to 10-8.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Silverton hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like South Albany struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Silverton's way against South Albany in their previous matchup back in April, as Silverton made off with an 11-3 victory. Will the Foxes repeat their success, or do the Redhawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
