The Chatham Central Bears will head out on the road to square off against the Western Harnett Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Chatham Central has seven straight wins, Western Harnett has 28 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Even though Cummings scored an imposing 58 points on Tuesday, Chatham Central still came out on top. Chatham Central walked away with a 71-58 win over Cummings. That's two games straight that Chatham Central has won by exactly 13 points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Chatham Central to victory, but perhaps none more so than Reid Albright, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 11 rebounds. Albright hasn't dropped below two steals for 19 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Gilliland, who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Western Harnett came up short against Triton on Tuesday and fell 56-43. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Western Harnett in their matchups with Triton: they've now lost nine in a row.
Chatham Central's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.0 points per game. As for Western Harnett, their loss dropped their record down to 0-20.
Everything came up roses for Chatham Central against Western Harnett in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 as the team secured a 69-40 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Chatham Central since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
