STAUNTON, Ill. - Saturday saw a surprise upset in Illinois where
Roxana (Ill.) triumphed over
Staunton (Ill.) 35-14.
After taking the lead on a
Chance Foss touchdown pass to
Charlie Sheets in the second quarter, the Shells led 14-7 at the half.
Roxana grew its lead to 21 points entering the fourth quarter. RHS scored two times in the third, including once on a
Nick Hand touchdown pass to Sheets.
The Shells has had a rough season, allowing 31.6 points per game. However, Roxana's defense stepped up, holding the Bulldogs well below their season average of 31.9 points per game.
The victory was a completely different match up compared to last season's game between these two teams, which Staunton took, 45-21.
The win was a nice bounce back for RHS, which lost to Gillespie last week, 18-17.
In a South Central game next week Staunton (5-3) takes on Gillespie, and Roxana (2-6) will go up against Southwestern also in a South Central game.
