The Mountain View Toros will head out to face off against the Highland Hawks at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Mountain View is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.9 runs per game this season.
Mountain View came out on top against Westwood on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run third inning. The Toros' pitchers stepped up to hand the Warriors a 10-0 shutout. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Toros considering their two-run performance the contest before.
The team relied heavily on Kylynn Sylvester, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Hadlie Goodman, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
Mountain View was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They are a perfect 12-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Highland entered their tilt with Gilbert on Thursday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They came out on top against the Tigers by a score of 4-0.
Highland also got a great performance from Kennedie Nelson as she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. Those 11 strikeouts gave Nelson a new career-high.
At the plate, Karsyn Norton was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was MadiLynn Bowen, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Mountain View has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 14 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for Highland, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-9.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. Mountain View hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.9 home runs per game. However, it's not like Highland struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.6 home runs.
