The Northville Falcons are taking a road trip to challenge the North Warren Central Cougars at 11:00 a.m. on Monday. Northville has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with four straight losses, while North Warren Central will come in with four straight wins.
It was a Battle of the Birds when Northville challenged Hadley Luzerne on Friday. The Falcons came up short against the Eagles, falling 19-7. On the bright side, the seven- run effort marked the Falcons' highest-scoring game to date.
Kaidyn Tran was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That run marked the first that he has scored this season. Kevin Becotte was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, North Warren Central never let their opponents score on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over Schroon Lake.
Wyatt Jennings was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 5.5 strikeouts per game. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Jennings is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Owen Scheafer, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Maceo Matson, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
North Warren Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Schroon Lake only posted an OBP of .250.
North Warren Central's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-0. As for Northville, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Northville has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like North Warren Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Northville might still be hurting after the 13-1 loss they got from North Warren Central in their previous meeting last Thursday. Can the Falcons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
