The Miramonte Matadors are taking a road trip to challenge the Concord Bears at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Miramonte is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Miramonte needed a bit of extra time to put away Berean Christian. They had just enough and edged out the Eagles 13-12. Winning may never get old, but the Matadors sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Abby Warren made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over eight innings while giving up six earned (and six unearned) runs off nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, Miramonte let Gianna Granzella and Lucy Daoust run wild. Granzella went 2-for-6 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base, while Daoust got on base in five of her six plate appearances with three runs. Those three runs gave Daoust a new career-high. Julia Quinn-Ferguson was another key player, going 3-for-5 with three runs and one RBI.
Miramonte was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .378. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .346 or higher in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Concord, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 16-6 margin over Campolindo on Thursday. The Bears haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Aislynn Newlin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk). Newlin was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI.
In other batting news, Shay Caban and Danielah Breaux did most of the damage at the plate: Caban got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Breaux got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Aaleah Hunt also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Miramonte's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-7. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Concord, their record is now 6-12.
Concord's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Miramonte has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9 hits per game. It's a different story for Concord, though, as they've been averaging 9 hits. Given Miramonte's sizable advantage in that area, the Bears will need to find a way to close that gap.
Miramonte skirted past Concord 4-2 in their previous matchup back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Matadors since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
