Basketball Recap: Hannan Takes a Loss

Hannan was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against Elk Valley Christian, falling 91-65. The Wildcats were not able to make up for their loss to Elk Valley Christian from their previous meeting back in January.

Despite the defeat, Hannan saw an underclassman step up: freshman Bryce Phillips posted 16 points. Those 16 points set a new season-high mark for Phillips. Another player making a difference was Eli Cade, who put up 11 points.

Elk Valley Christian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Spencer Campbell out in front who dropped a triple-double on 29 points, 16 rebounds, and ten blocks. Campbell is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down nine or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Hines, who went 14 of 21 on his way to 36 points.

Hannan's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Elk Valley Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season.

Hannan won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Cross Lanes Christian at 9:00 a.m. on Friday. Hannan is facing Cross Lanes Christian at the right time seeing as Cross Lanes Christian is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Elk Valley Christian, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against New Life Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 6, 2025.
