The Wood River Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They took a 43-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of Central City. Wood River was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Central City apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Wood River lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Macie Peters, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and four steals. Another player making a difference was Sidney Frear, who scored ten points along with two blocks.
Even though they lost, Wood River smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Central City only pulled down three offensive rebounds.
Central City's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Addie Buhlke, who scored 15 points along with three steals. Buhlke has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jerzie Schindler, who scored ten points.
Wood River's defeat dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Central City, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 10-4.
Wood River and Ord will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Ord focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Saturday. As for Central City, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Madison at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Madison is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
