Wahconah Regional is 1-9 against Taconic since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Warriors will host the Thunder at 4:15 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.
Wahconah Regional took a loss when they played away from home last Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Amherst-Pelham Regional a 12-0 shutout. The high-scoring effort was just what the Warriors needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
James Rabuse was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Connor Kirchner, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base.
Wahconah Regional always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Amherst-Pelham Regional only posted an OBP of .125.
Taconic not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 25, 2024. They put the hurt on Holyoke with a sharp 9-3 win. The victory continues a trend for the Thunder in their matchups with the Purple Knights: they've now won seven in a row.
Chase Wendling made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. Wendling was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Taconic got a massive performance out of Quentin Christopher, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits Christopher has posted since back in April of 2024. Ed Ferris was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Taconic now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Wahconah Regional, the win got them back to even at 1-1.
Wahconah Regional skirted past Taconic 2-0 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Thunder have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
