Godwin is 8-2 against Deep Run since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Eagles will venture away from home to face off against the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. Godwin is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Godwin's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They blew past Glen Allen 11-0. Considering the Eagles have won 11 matches by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Katelyn Hubley made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Bella Ross was a standout: she went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Gabrielle Coleman, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Godwin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .520. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Glen Allen only posted an OBP of .167.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Deep Run, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Wednesday. They walked away with a 7-4 win over Freeman on Thursday.
Like Godwin, Deep Run also got a great game from a two-way player: Hope Tate. She struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). Tate was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Braelyn Baulsir and Brooke Black did most of the damage at the plate: Baulsir went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Black got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one triple. That's the most RBI Baulsir has posted since back in March. Sadie Hutchens was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Godwin pushed their record up to 15-0 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Deep Run, their record now sits at 9-7.
Everything went Godwin's way against Deep Run in their previous meeting back in April, as Godwin made off with an 8-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
