4A Far West recap Sept. 26, 2012
Siuslaw suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after a 35-21 loss to Siuslaw. The Vikings had been ranked 21st, but fell to 26 following the defeat.
Brookings-Harbor was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in 4A Far West. The Bruins beat Hoopa Valley 35-27 earlier in the week.
Douglas's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jordan Shaffer threw for 226 and two touchdowns and Bryce Watson had 130 yards receiving. On the ground James Simmons chipped in 41 yards. Nate Vosika helped Douglas' passing attack out by catching three balls for 27 yards.
Douglas' offense has been unstoppable this season and the Trojans feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Shaffer has thrown for 779 yards and six touchdowns this season, while Riley Lavin has 21 catches for 328 yards. Vosika leads the league in rushing with 240 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when North Bend/Oregon Coast Tech takes on the Trojans. At the moment, the Bulldogs are in second, while Douglas is in third.
South Umpqua took down Bandon/Pacific 65-8 last week, the largest margin of any game.
