Dylan Craig was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run and stealing three bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mekhidric Jackson, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Fultondale). Their pitcher stepped up to hand Tarrant a 25-0 shutout on Thursday. Fultondale has beaten Tarrant the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest Tarrant has come to flipping the script.
Brody Mathis made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Fultondale is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 8-11 otherwise. Mathis was even better at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two).
In other batting news, Austin Rogers was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. He has become a key player for Fultondale: the team is 7-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-11 otherwise. Jaiden Palmer was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.
Fultondale always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .853. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Fultondale's win bumped their record up to 11-12. As for Huffman, their loss dropped their record down to 7-10.
Monday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Huffman has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .435. However, it's not like Fultondale struggles in that department as they've averaged .476. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Huffman suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Fultondale in their previous matchup back in February. Will the Vikings have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
