Balboa has enjoyed the comforts of home their last two games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Galileo Lions at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Balboa focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Wednesday.
While it was all tied up 30-30 at halftime, Balboa was not quite the Cardinals' equal in the second half on Wednesday. Balboa fell 61-48 to the Cardinals. While losing is never fun, Balboa can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1034th, while the Cardinals are ranked 417th).
Despite their defeat, Balboa saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Je'Mon Brown, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine assists, was perhaps the best of all. It was the first time this season that Brown posted eight or more assists. Sam San Juan was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Galileo entered their tilt with the Boilermakers with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Galileo breezed by the Boilermakers at home to the tune of 56-22 on Wednesday.
Balboa has traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-14 record this season. As for Galileo, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-11.
Things could have been worse for Balboa, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 59-40 loss to the Lions when the teams last played back in January. Can Balboa avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
