Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Southlake Carroll Dragons, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They fell 45-38 to the Eagles on Saturday. Southlake Carroll's defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.
Several Dragons players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Riley Wormley, who rushed for 134 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries. Clayton Wayland also helped out as he racked up 114 receiving yards.
Special teams played a big role in the game for Southlake Carroll, adding 12 points to the final score. All those points came courtesy of Kyle Lemmermann: he added nine points with three field goals, and another three kicking extra points.
Deondrae Riden jr. was on fire for DeSoto: he rushed for 254 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.5 yards per carry. Riden jr. set a new season high mark in carries with 34. Darius Bailey was another key contributor, throwing for 189 yards and two touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes.
Southlake Carroll's loss dropped their record down to 13-2. As for DeSoto, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 14-0.
Southlake Carroll does not have any more games scheduled as of now. DeSoto will take on Summer Creek in a holiday battle at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday at. Summer Creek knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matches -- so hopefully DeSoto likes a good challenge.
