Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bellevue East). They took down the Burke Bulldogs 75-61 on Tuesday. The Chieftains didn't have much to brag about two games back, but this victory makes it their second in a row.
Bellevue East got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Isaac Gore out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds. Gore is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games he's played. Joshua Jones was another key player, as he made all 6 shots he took for 17 points and seven rebounds.
Bellevue East was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Burke only racked up six assists.
Burke lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Marcus Buchanan, who posted 17 points. Those 17 points gave Buchanan a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nate Vereen-Burton, who earned 11 points.
Bellevue East's record now sits at 5-9. As for Burke, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-9.
Bellevue East will challenge Papillion-LaVista at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Papillion-LaVista knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six contests -- so hopefully Bellevue East likes a good challenge. As for Burke, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Buena Vista at 7:15 p.m.
