The Clear Fork Colts will venture away from home to take on the Highland Fighting Scots at 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Clear Fork is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
Clear Fork will face Highland after dropping another heartbreaker against Madison Comprehensive on Monday, which marked the second time in a row the team's come within 2.1 of beating them. The Colts fell just short of the Rams by a score of 3-2. The Colts haven't had much luck with the Rams recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Clear Fork saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mya Perry, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI. Katrina Rogers was another, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one double.
River Valley hit Highland with a four-run seventh inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Fighting Scots fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 6-4. The Fighting Scots have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Lydia Shaffer put in work while hitting and pitching. She tossed seven innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. What's more, she gave up only one walk, the fewest she's had since back in March. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Saylor Squires was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Braylin Romshak, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Clear Fork's record is now 11-8. As for Highland, their record now sits at an identical 11-8.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Clear Fork hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Highland struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Clear Fork took their win against Highland in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 9-3 score. Will the Colts repeat their success, or do the Fighting Scots have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
