Basketball Recap: Ironwood Ridge's Loss Ends Five-Game Winning Streak at Home

Ironwood Ridge was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against the Sunnyside Blue Devils, falling 69-45. The Nighthawks were probably out for revenge after losing 70-41 to them when the teams met back in January of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Despite the defeat, Ironwood Ridge had strong showings from Molly Walter, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds, and Serenity Hampton, who posted 12 points and eight rebounds. Walter has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jaidyn Saucedo, who put up eight points and five assists.

It was another big night for Angelique Yanez, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 12 rebounds for Sunnyside. Those 25 points gave Yanez a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Annabelle Quiroga, who had 18 points and five rebounds.

Ironwood Ridge's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 7-9. As for Sunnyside, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 16-1.

Ironwood Ridge didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 64-33 victory against Canyon del Oro on the 9th. As for Sunnyside, they will host Vista Grande at 7:00 p.m. on January 14th. The timing is sure in Sunnyside's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while Vista Grande has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
