The Westside Seminoles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They were dealt a 74-46 defeat at the hands of Spalding. Westside was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-21.
Westside's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Destiny Spencer, who dropped a double-double on 10 points and 13 rebounds. Spencer is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Taylor Talton, who scored 20 points along with 5 assists and 5 rebounds.
Spalding's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Chayce Matthews led the charge by scoring 10 points along with 3 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Makayla Wright, who scored 8 points.
Westside's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Spalding, their victory bumped their record up to 3-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Westside will take on Northeast at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Georgia (Northeast is ranked 424th, while Westside is ranked 419th). As for Spalding, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against West Laurens at 5:00 p.m.
