Classical Academy is 2-8 against Escondido Charter since March of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Caimans will challenge the Tigers at 5:00 p.m. Classical Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
Classical Academy will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Fallbrook on Wednesday. The Caimans were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over the Warriors. Considering the Caimans have won four matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Eleri Evans made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Evans was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kalia Gonzalez, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. Gezylah Key was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.
Classical Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fallbrook only posted an OBP of .310.
Meanwhile, Escondido Charter entered their tilt with Academy of Our Lady of Peace on Wednesday with seven consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with eight. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Pilots a 5-0 shutout. Give the Tigers' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's fourth straight shutout.
Not much got past Lilly Harper, who gave up just three hits to keep Academy of Our Lady of Peace off the board. Harper has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Zaliyah Jones was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Olivia Smith, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Escondido Charter pushed their record up to 13-2 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Classical Academy, their record now sits at 4-5.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Classical Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .336. However, it's not like Escondido Charter struggles in that department as they've averaged .340. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Classical Academy might still be hurting after the 16-1 loss they got from Escondido Charter when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Caimans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
