Baseball Recap: Vancleave Drops Season-High Score on Gautier

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Vancleave). They blew past the Gautier Gators 23-2 on Thursday. Winning may never get old, but the Bulldogs sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.

Dane McElroy made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in February. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-5 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Conner Mitchell, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jaxon Albert, who scored three runs while going 2-for-2.

Vancleave always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .610. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Vancleave pushed their record up to 14-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Gautier, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-9.

Vancleave will have a chance to go back-to-back against Gautier: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
