Basketball Recap: Christian Kendrick and Karsten Walker Secure Win for Sumner

After losing to Robinson the last time they met, Sumner decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Sumner Stingrays snuck past the Robinson Knights with a 60-55 victory on Friday. Given the Stingrays' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 285th, while the Knights are ranked 619th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Sumner to victory were Karsten Walker and Christian Kendrick. Walker went 8 for 18 on his way to 22 points, while Kendrick went 5 of 6 en route to 13 points. The game was Walker's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bennard Anson, who posted eight points.

Despite the loss, Robinson still got an impressive performance from Zyon Floyd, who went 5 for 9 en route to 11 points in addition to five assists and three steals. Another player making a difference was Marcell Smith, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 11 points.

The win made it two in a row for Sumner and bumps their season record up to 12-10. As for Robinson, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last ten matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-17 record this season.

Sumner has already played their next contest, a 96-70 victory against Middleton on the 27th. As for Robinson, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 57-44 loss against Bloomingdale on the 27th.
