4A Region 5 recap Sept. 26, 2012
Logan extended the longest winning streak in 4A Region 5 this week by beating Roy, 30-23. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Grizzlies.
Mountain Crest was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Bonneville 42-0. The Mustangs came in at 22 in the state poll after placing at number 29 last week.
Logan's dynamic duo of Luke Falk and Hagen Andersen proved tough for the Royals to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Falk threw for 387 yards and three touchdowns and Andersen had 128 yards receiving. Taylor Compton helped Logan's passing attack out by catching eight balls for 93 yards.
Sam Bennion made the biggest impact on defense this week as Mike Favero's team bested Roy. The 6-foot-5 defensive lineman grabbed two sacks.
Kyler Allen was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 14 carries, he ran for 113 yards as Box Elder defeated Fred Fernandes's team. Teammate Breckin Gunter added to the ground attack by rushing for 29 yards.
Logan's Falk and Jesse Braddy have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Falk has thrown for 2009 yards this season, while Braddy, a 5-foot-11 receiver, has 62 catches for 694 yards. Allen from the Bees leads the league in rushing with 430 yards.
The marquee game in 4A Region 5 this week will be the clash between Mountain Crest and Box Elder. Mark Wootton's team enters the game ranked 22nd in the state, while Robbie Gunter's team ranks 11th.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when the Grizzlies take on Sky View. Logan's offense has recorded 217 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while the Bobcats have permitted only 196 on the year.
The Mustangs took down the Lakers 42-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
