The Germantown Mavericks will head out to face off against the Starkville Yellowjackets at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Germantown is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Germantown had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Tupelo on Thursday. Germantown blew past Tupelo 14-4. The victory continues a trend for the Mavericks in their matchups with the Golden Wave: they've now won three in a row.
Mackenzie Donnell spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Maggie Lindley, who scored three runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Raines Ramage, who scored two runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Starkville gave up the first runs on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top against Choctaw County by a score of 9-6. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Yellowjackets as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Sadie Foote was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Alex Jones, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Germantown's record is now 11-5. As for Starkville, their record now sits at 6-10.
Saturday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Germantown has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .435. However, it's not like Starkville struggles in that department as they've averaged .437. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Germantown's way against Starkville when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Germantown made off with a 20-2 victory. Does Germantown have another victory up their sleeve, or will Starkville turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
