Baseball Recap: North Warren Central Finds Playoff Glory Versus Parishville-Hopkinton

With a playoff win on the line, North Warren Central rose to the challenge on Sunday. They put the hurt on the Parishville-Hopkinton Panthers with a sharp 11-1 win. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by seven runs or more this season.

Wyatt Jennings and Owen Scheafer made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Jennings pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Scheafer didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. At the plate, Jennings went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI, while Scheafer went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Jennings is becoming a predictor of North Warren Central's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-5-1 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Daniel Mattison was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Maceo Matson, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.

The victory was the seventh in a row for North Warren Central, bringing their record up to 14-5-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.9 runs over those games. As for Parishville-Hopkinton, they moved to 14-5 with that loss, which also ended their eight-game winning streak.

Coming up, North Warren Central will face off against Smithtown Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Knights' pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so the Cougars' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Parishville-Hopkinton does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
