The San Dieguito Academy Mustangs will square off against the Morse Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. San Dieguito Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
While San Dieguito Academy's win against Vista wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Mustangs narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Panthers 8-7. The win continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won eight in a row.
The team relied heavily on Kegan Herceg, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Aubrey Early was another key player, getting on base in two of her five plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Morse hadn't beaten San Diego on the road since May 5, 2022 but that history sure didn't bother them on Friday. The Tigers blew past the Cavers 21-7. Considering the Tigers have won ten games by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Morse got a massive performance out of Beyah Salvador, who went 5-for-6 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Abby Okita, who got on base in four of her six plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Morse kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Morse is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for San Dieguito Academy, their win bumped their record up to 14-5-1.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. San Dieguito Academy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .321. However, it's not like Morse struggles in that department as they've averaged .376. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
