Morristown dropped to 6-7 on Thursday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They came up short against the South Decatur Cougars, falling 11-1. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Yellow Jackets couldn't push the score so high this time.
Morristown saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Leigh Ann Arnold, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base. Ayvah Weir also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
As for South Decatur, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 10-3. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games.
On South Decatur's side, Riley Benge made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Benge was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Raegan Benge, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Lilly Murray, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Coming up, Morristown will challenge Triton Central at 9:00 p.m. on Saturday. South Decatur will be paying especially close attention to the Yellow Jackets' matchup: after the Yellow Jackets face off against the Tigers, they'll take on South Decatur again at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
